New Release from SilentKarma!
We are happy to release our newest old song, Old Wounds, a song about the hurt which lives inside us and the choices we make around what we dc with that pain.
You might find thehe backstory on the song interesting. An old friend of mine, Zanne Langlois, who is a fantastic poet, invited me to a poetry slam she was performing at in Portland, Maine. The poets there were great, many were very experineced in the art of slams, and so the evening was most enjoyable.
What struck me at the slam was how many people wanted and needed to express their pain throught their poetry. They did such a great job, through tears, anger, frustration, and heartache, telling the world their stories of suffering.
That night, and the next day, I spent quite a big of time thinking aobut all those deep messages I had heard. And thinking about the power of the medium of poetry, especially poetry ead aloud, as a vehicle of healing. So I did something different, I wrote a poem/song beginning with words, instead of beginning with music as I usually do. Old Wounds was that poem, which became a song, and which I've rerecorded, mixed, and mastered to post here. I hope you enjoy it!
One of the roles artists have is to react, reflect, and try to help us make sense of things in our world, whether those things are personal, like relationships, or political, like the insurrection. In focusing on and struggling with a response to life's challenges, artists' expression of their understanding of those struggles help us all navigate the complex emotions we each experience. We need artists of all kinds, painters, musicians, dancers, poets, actors, writers, to push us to more fully understand the world we live in.

SilentKarma is an independent music project. The songs are recorded, mixed, and mastered in my home studio. As such they may not equal the sonic quality of the world's greatest studios with their expensive equipment and expert sound engineeers who professionally mix and master music. But, thanks to astounding progress in digital music tools, the songs still sound great! I hope you have a chance to listen and hope you agree. - Jim
